The Worship Leader will demonstrate a strong commitment to Jesus Christ while developing
and implementing a music ministry that enhances the worship of God and whole ministry of the church. The responsibilities of the Worship Leader include:
Plan, coordinate and lead the music for all worship services (Sunday mornings and special services as approved by Session, i.e. Maundy Thursday, Ash Wednesday, Christmas Eve, etc.)
Ensure that all music presented (instrumental and vocal) glorifies God and is of a high quality nature. The music will include a variety of genres, including traditional hymns and more contemporary songs.
Recruit, evaluate, develop, train, identify gifts, and lead singers both within and outside the congregation according to their talents to provide excellent music.
Recruit, evaluate, develop, train, identify gifts, lead, and perform with musicians both within and outside the congregation to provide excellent music through a variety of instruments, including keyboard, bass and lead guitar, drums, other percussion, violin, flute, etc.
Meet with pastor weekly to facilitate a cohesive service, with music appropriate and complimentary to the service. Work directly with the pastor regarding service logistics.
Conduct regularly scheduled music rehearsals for both instrumental and vocal groups. Use practice CDs or other technology to ensure effective rehearsals and excellent music.
Maintain expenses within budget (purchasing music and needed supplies) and provide budget estimates in upcoming years
Assist with the planning and coordination of the process for continued development of the worship service, including competent leadership during absence.
Provide a worshipful atmosphere for rehearsals for instrumental and vocal groups, conducting oneself in a Christian manner as a follower of Jesus Christ
Seek continuing education in the form of other worship leaders, conferences, magazines and other resources to maintain knowledge of current trends in sacred and secular music and to grow as a worship leader.
Communicate with pastor and administrative assistant in a timely matter regarding bulletin information and proofing, and Media Shout/visual information.
Work with weddings and funerals as able.
Perform additional/other duties and responsibilities as the Pastor and/or Session sees fit.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have proven ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Experience: The qualified candidate will have at least one year of leading a congregation in public worship. Skills must include knowledge of notation and standard choral harmony, and understanding of the role of music in the Reformed Presbyterian tradition. Mastery of at least one musical instrument, demonstrated leadership of a music ensemble, and ability to lead worship while playing an instrument is required.
Collaborative Skills: Demonstrated success working in collaboration with staff and/or church members to build sustainable relationships and work efficiently and effectively for the best end result. Proven ability to engage with others, establish trust, credibility and confidence as well as work toward conflict resolution when needed. Desire and ability to motivate, inspire and engage individuals with varying knowledge and experience levels as well as personality types toward a common goal.
Resources: The worship leader must remain current with the musical trends in Christian faith development and expression and worship practices. The leader must possess the talent and creativity to lead a musical program.
Other Personnel Matters
Paid leave requests and time away are to be made directly to the Pastor and are to be documented to the Personnel and Resource Coordinator. The worship leader will have 4 Sundays a year paid leave. That person will be responsible for competent music leadership during absences.
The Worship Leader will be under direct supervision and accountable to the pastor as well as answerable to the Session.
Evaluation Process: A 90 day evaluation will take place to determine if both parties want to continue employment. An evaluation will be done each year by the Pastor and Resource/Personnel coordinator.
Position anticipates 10-15 hours per week.
Salary is comparable to experience.
